Pharaons Rally: the countdown has started!!!

The new challenge in the Egyptian Desert will start shortly: the 2015 Pharaons Rally that marks the fourth appointment of the Cross Country FIA World Cup and the third of the FIM World Championship. The loading procedures at Venice Port are done and the Grimaldi ship is already sailing toward Alexandria, while other vehicles will arrive directly from Abu Dhabi and Qatar. The appointment is for May 10th in El Alamein at the luxurious Caesar Bay Resort, inserted among dunes and tongues of white sand that run at the side of the crystal blue Mediterranean Coast.

Two days dedicated to the needed “bureaucracy” before the race, then on May 12th the thrilling challenge will open up and will cross magical places full of history. Compass pointed South, toward the Tibniya Oasis, base of the Pharaons Rally for three days and three following stages. The final day will take drivers and riders to Giza for the usual podium set in front of the Pyramids, unique in the world, after almost 2.500 km of race.

Among cars, the challenge is the same that last year has seen the Saudi Yazeed Al-Rajhi (Toyota Overdrive) shining over Nasser Al Attiyah (Mini X-Raid). There will be three Toyota in race among the team headed by Jean Marc Fortin, besides Al-Rajhi, the Egyptian dunes will be cut by the Brazilian Reinaldo Varela and the Pole Marek Dabrowski (Team Orlen). In the team directed by Sven Quandt, besides Al Attiyah, there will be the Dutch Erik Van Loon and the actual champion Vladimir Vasilyev (Team G-Energy). Another important presence is the Czech Miroslav Zapletal (Team Offroad Sport), as well as the Hungarian Balasz Szalay (Opel Dakar Team). The 4WD Team Jaton Racing will be at the start with three vehicles, driven by the Peruvian Raul Orlandini and the Qatarians Al-Mannai Mohammed and Al-Mohannadi Khalid. Also the Kazakh team Mobilex will be there with two vehicles in race and the Race World Team with Yasir Seaidan driving. Among the racing SSV, all from the X-Treme Plus team by Marco Piana: the crew are Van Bohemen/Polato, Viard/Multinu, Mozas/Delaunay.

Italian colours are represented by the aficionados twins, Aldo and Dario De Lorenzo, that will also give their team assistance to the nice Japanese doctor Keyko Hamaguchi, also her an aficionada of Pharaons. Tecnosport team follows up its commitment at the World Cup with the Kazakh Denis Berezovsky, while R-Team Italy will be there with the Qatarian sheikh Al-Thani. Egypt will be represented by Sitra Racing and Rahhala Racing team, this last strong with its driver Tarek El Erian. Three trucks in race, two Mercedes Unimog by Orobica Raid team, with crews Verzelletti/Verzelletti/Fortuna and Calubini/Pasqua/Gardin. The Tatra of the Team Bonver Dakar Project with the crew Ardavicius/Nikizhev/Hrava.

On the two wheels side, heavy is the absence of the two major teams, KTM Red Bull and Honda HRC that are not showing up at the Pharaons this year like last year. But there will be the winner of last year edition, the Bolivian Juan Carlos “Chavo” Salvatierra that must secure his record from the assaults of the Pole Jakub Piatek, the new promise of Orlen Team, and from the Emirates rider Mohammed Balooshi. Eyes wide open also on the Russian Anastasiya Nifontova, that has decided to test herself among the Egyptian dunes after Abu Dhabi and Qatar. Battle also among the quads, mainly between the two that are challenging the World Championship since the beginning, the World Champion Rafal Sonik, also winner of the Dakar, and the Qatarian Mohamed Abu Issa. Making it hard for them, there is the French Antoine Lecomte. Also the Spanish husband and wife Covadonga Fernandez and Eduardo Marcos will be racing.
