PHARAONS RALLY, the legend is starting again!

Countdown has begun! The 2014 Pharaons Rally, from 18th to 25th May will be back in the amazing Egyptian desert for a never-ever-seen-before edition.

Grimaldi Lines’ Eurocargo Istanbul ship left Venice’s port in Italy on Tuesday and it is now sailing on the Mediterranean Sea toward its final destination Alexandria in Egypt. Many other vehicles are coming from Dubai and Qatar with their GPS set on El Gouna on the Red Sea, for the first time the start of the Pharaons Rally.

Scrutineerings will take place on May 18th, a marvelous prologue on the day after next to the beach and then the race starts heading toward Luxor, then through the Egyptian desert, touching Dakhla and Baharija’s oasis. The traditional and always exciting finish line is on Saturday May 24th in Cairo under the Pyramids of Giza.

The challenge among cars will turn out extremely hard and stunning because of the battle between the X-Raid All4 Racing Minis VS Orlen and Yazeed Racing on Overdrive Toyota. All eyes are on the "prince" of the dunes, Nasser Al Attiyah, fresh winner of his home race in Qatar. He said he is quite excited to run in Egypt. Current World Cup leader, the Russian Vladimir Vasilyev and the competitive Dutch Erik Van Loon will race on the other Minis All4.

Saudi Yazeed Al-Rajhi and Polish ex biker Marek Dabrowski will be Overdrive Toyota drivers. Mobilex Team lines up with the Kazakh Kanat Shagirov, driving a Hilux Toyota, and his team mate Yuriy Sazonov on H3-EVO5 Hummer. They will all fight for victory in the hot desert. Keep an eye on the Czech Miroslav Zapletal, "old" acquaintance of the Pharaons Rally, as well as the team Objectif Dunes and their buggy built with aerospace technology and driven by Maurice Benoit.

Back to race in his home rally Tarek El Erian, the first Egyptian to take part in the 2013 Dakar Rally and recent winner of the El Gouna Rally Cup. In his Rahhala Racing team there is also Yara Shalabi, the first Egyptian woman to race in the Pharaons Rally driving a Toyota Landcruiser T2. Staying in the Pharos land, more Egyptian drivers are Ahmed El Shamy and Adham Mostafa with the Pharaohs Team. Aldo and Dario De Lorenzo twins, true aficionados of the Pharaons Rally, could not miss the 2014 edition; they will also offer field assistance to the Japanese “doctor” Keiko Hamaguchi.

The favorite role among bikes is without any doubt played by the Over450 World Champion class, the Bolivian Juan Carlos "Chavo" Salvatierra, who after an excellent 2014 Dakar returns to the World Cup with his Speedbrain 450. He will have to keep an eye on the tough Emirates driver Mohammed Balooshi who arrives at Pharaons Rally boosted by the recent excellent results obtained in Abu Dhabi and Qatar Rallies.

Venezuelans Nicolas Cardona and Rafael Eraso will surely be the protagonists there, while the Italian Stefano Turchi could be one of the surprises of the Egyptian race. Maurizio Dominella, historical car navigator, will be back on the saddle with the Brietling Emergency Team.

The most exciting story of 2014 edition is certainly the South African Jacobus Bosman Wessel’s one, who started riding from his homeland in late April directed to Egypt on his bike. He has already traveled 6000 km to reach Ethiopia, missing now 3000 km to arrive in El Gouna. A true hero, who chose the difficult Egyptian challenge to prepare himself for the 2015 Dakar Rally.

In the quad category the favorite is the Polish Rafal Sonik, defending his championship title and current leader of the World rankings. Among the 4 wheels we must bring up the everyday life couple, wife and husband Covadonga Fernandez Suarez and Eduardo Marcos Echaniz. They will be quad riding under the Team Pedrega’s flag: love can also be racing in the desert!
